Hazards of Fleas and Ticks in North Austin and Pflugerville

Fleas and ticks are prevalent in North Austin and Pflugerville. Fleas can cause skin allergies in the form of flea dermatitis and tapeworm infestations, and they can cause anemia in small kittens and puppies. Ticks carry a wide array of diseases, including Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Cytauxzoonosis and Lyme Disease.

Preventing Fleas and Ticks with our Veterinarian

Our veterinarian can help you get rid of flea and tick infestations and help you find the right method of flea and tick prevention for you and your pets. In general, we offer oral tablets for dogs and cats, topical medications and flea and tick collars.

If your dog or cat will eat a pill, oral tablets may be the best way to go for flea infestations. When a flea bites your pet, they will ingest the medication and die. We usually recommend flea and tick collars in addition to oral tablets because the medication does not kill ticks.

Topical medications are placed between your pet's shoulder blades where it disperses across your pet's fur. Topical medications usually last at least 30 days.

To schedule an appointment for your pet to discuss fleas and ticks and to get preventative medications, call us at 512-339-3177.
