Traveling with Pets: How to Know When Boarding is Best
Dog Boarding and Cat Boarding in Austin: Best Choice for Holiday Pet Care
#1: Think twice before flying. Many airlines allow pets to fly inside the cargo hold. However, keep in mind that these airlines do not guarantee your pet’s safety. Long layovers or a missed connection could mean that your pet is confined to a crate for hours on end, without access to the bathroom or human companionship. This can be very scary and stressful for pets.
#2: Never leave a pet home alone. Even if a neighbor checks in daily, a pet left alone can become bored, lonely and anxious. Your pet may destroy furniture or try to escape. Worse, in the event of a health emergency, it could be hours before your pet receives care from an animal clinic.#3: Crate your pet in the car. A well-ventilated crate or carrier keeps your pet safe and secure. There should be enough room for your pet to comfortably stand up, turn around, and lie back down. Letting your pet ride with his head out the window means he won’t be secure in the event of an accident.
#4: Reduce the risk for car sickness. Avoid feeding your pet three to four hours in advance of the trip. Never feed your pet in a moving vehicle; that’s a recipe for an upset stomach!
