Austin Veterinarians Share 5 Fun Ways to Say Thanks to Your Pet
From a friendly lick to a wagging tail, our pets give us unconditional love. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, show your pet just how much you care with a special holiday treat. Here at Dessau Veterinary Clinic, these are our Austin veterinarians' favorite ways to say "thank you" to their pets.
Austin Animal Clinic's Top 5 Ways to Say Thanks
Bones and chews. While it may be tempting to toss your pet a leftover turkey bone, never give a dog an actual bone. Bones can easily splinter and damage your pet's intestines - leading to an expensive trip to the emergency room. Instead, choose a safe, store-bought bone or chew in a fun holiday flavor like turkey, sweet potatoes or apples available in many specialty dog stores.
Canned food. Skinless, boneless turkey is said to be a healthy treat for dogs and cats, but too much turkey can cause diarrhea or even pancreatitis, which can be fatal. Rather than sharing your turkey, provide your pet with a special meal of canned dog or cat food. The canned food will still be a treat, but will be a safe and healthy treat.
Organic pet biscuits. These are a healthy, fun way to say "thank you" to your pet. Many specialty pet stores in Austin now carry treats made from ingredients like pomegranate, acai berry and quinoa. Or, opt for a seasonal flavor like biscuits made from pumpkin, sweet potato or apple.
Pet grooming. Treat your pet to a "spa day" at our animal clinic salon. We offer cat and dog grooming services that include bathing, brushing, nail trimming and hair trimming.
Time together. Nothing says "thank you" like a little quality time with your pet. Whether you take your dog for a swim in Town Lake or give your cat extra attention at home, all pets love one-on-one time.
